What should I use for D. Tityus larvae substrate?

I went out into a forest and though I didn't see any decomposed wood, I found some dead wood and dead coastal oak leaves. Also, I am wondering what type of substrate bears the best results, as I don't want "average" substrate, I mean I need a reliable way to make the best D. Tityus substrate possible. If anyone could reeeally help me with this that would be ggggreat. Thanks!

I've always had great results with the oak flake soil from bugsincyberspace. I've got two D. tityus pupating in it now and they're quite big, and my four D. grantii larvae in the same substrate are gigantic.

So oak flake soil should be fine? I want to make it myself, because I know how expensive it is to buy substrate en masse. I was looking for a good recipe for dynastes tityus breeding.

ok, sorry if this is a dumb question but what is monster flake soil? I know flake soil but not sure how you make monster flake soil.

Oh I see, got it. Thanks.

Is the freight expensive coming from Taiwan? Has it been pretty reliable?

I always worry about ordering stuff from overseas unless it's on Ebay because of the protection you have with Ebay.

Thanks for any input.

Oh ok. I thought it was only illegal to import/export live insects without a permit. I figured things like substrate was ok but now that I think about it, I was talking to someone who was telling me that shipping oak to California was illegal. It gets pretty confusing. Thanks for the heads up.

Alright, so I decided to read the Ultimate Guide to Breeding Beetles(author being Orin) I picked up 4 years ago. I decided that I would use his method to make substrate for egg laying and larva rearing. According to what the book read, it said I should use rotting wood, compost manure and rotted leaves. I picked up this stuff at the nursery: it had cow manure, straw, wood chips, and concentrations of chamomile, yarrow, valerian, stinging nettle, dandelion, and oak bark. The stuff is called Bus Blend Biodynamic Compost. Just wondering if this is alright to add in the mix. Thanks!

I really could use the information right now
